Pub, Club and Cider Awards
The three main Branch awards are Pub of the Year, Club of the Year, Cider Outlet of the Year*
Winners of each award go forward to the Regional and then potentially National competitions. The Branch chooses the three annual winners usually by the end of March each year.
Pub of the Year. The Branch Members select the Pub of the Year from the pubs in the current Good Beer Guide as chosen by the Branch.
Scores from Branch Members visiting all the pubs soon after the Good Beer Guide selection meeting and using CAMRA’s national judging system. See appendix 2 of the CAMRA’s Pub of the Year Competition Procedure, which is available in the Members area of the CAMRA main website.
Club of the Year Unfortunately, there are only a few Clubs in the Branch area serving consistent quality cask/live beers, a shortlist for Club of the Year is drawn up by the Branch based upon scores and nominations from the Branch Members, the Branch then follows CAMRA’s Club of the Year Competition Procedure, which is available in the Members area of the CAMRA main website. Due to the lack of Clubs some years there has been no award given.
Cider Outlet of the Year A shortlist of cider Outlets is drawn up by the Branch Cider Officer, information taken from the Beer scoring system including CAMRA Members recommendations. CAMRA’s national judging system for cider pubs is applied. Again, as with the Clubs award due to the lack of outlets some years there has been no award given.
*The Branch uses Outlet rather than Pub in case there is an Off Licence or other premises which may be eligible for inclusion in the award.
